Ask Linda #1121-Different par for men and women on same hole

Linda,
We have 2 holes on my home course where the par is different for men and women. One is a par 5 for men, 4 for women. The other is the opposite. My question is, when playing match play in tournament play, if the woman makes a four on the par 5 (birdie) and the man makes four (par), does the woman win the hole in a match or is it halved?
Thank you.
Lou from Massachusetts

Dear Lou,

The hole is halved. A player wins a hole in match play by completing the hole in fewer strokes than his opponent [Rule 2-1]. Differences in par for men and women do not enter into the equation. If both players score the same, the hole is halved. This may not seem fair, but that’s the way it is.
