Ask Linda #660-GUR in hazard

Another to test you, Linda. With regard to Ask Linda #615, my question is why have GUR in a water hazard if you are not entitled to free relief?
Lou

Dear Lou,

One reason I can think of for a club to mark an area in a hazard as GUR is if the club has made some repair to the area and it doesn't want anyone hitting a ball in that area until roots can take hold or the repair heals. This is a legitimate reason, and it is the player's responsibility to know that if he cannot hit a ball that lies in a hazard he must take a one-stroke penalty and proceed under one of the relief options in Rule 26-1.
