Linda, would the partner be allowed to declare the next shot
as a provisional, so that the original, if found in bounds, can be played?

Dear Lou,
Yes. In an alternate shot format, if there is doubt whether
Player A’s ball is out of bounds, Player B (A’s partner) may declare his ball
to be provisional [Decision 29-1/3].
