Ask Linda 502-Ball embedded in putting green

Linda,

If a ball is imbedded on the putting surface, does the player get to mark the ball, repair the embedded mark and then replace the ball, or do they find a nearest point of relief?  thanks,  Lulu

Dear Lulu,

Players are entitled to repair damage to the green caused by the impact of a ball [Rule 16-1c]. An embedded ball falls into this category. Accordingly, you will mark, lift, repair, and replace the ball on the spot where it embedded.
